Brides: How made-to-measure suits can help grooms look fabulous!

It’s the biggest day of your lives. You want your man and the groomsmen to look good in wedding photos! Many couples look at the photographs after their wedding and wish more time and care had been spent on the groomsmen’s suits.

Look good in wedding photos: Tailor made wedding suit with pink lining to match the wedding theme by Saint Crispin Bespoke Menswear.

Badly fitting suits really show on those, all important, ‘lifetime to keep’ shots! Jackets that are clearly too long or too short. Sleeves that virtually cover the wearer’s hands. Trousers that hang in copious pleats around the ankles. These are some of the obvious faux pas we see regularly. With the average cost of a wedding dress now around £1,300, it’s clear brides are looking for quality. So should the groom and groomsmen.

Suit Hire v Buying

Hiring suits has until recently, been a very popular option. But with Covid-19 who wants to be wearing a suit someone else has got hot and sweaty in? Even if it has been dry- cleaned and sanitised, the delicate fibres do not stand up well to constantly being cleaned. Consequently, the fabrics chosen to make these garments are made of man-made fibres which can soon make the groomsmen feel hot and uncomfortable.

Buying suits online verses the high Street

Buying online seems like the obvious solution for many. A cheap, quick and easy process you would think, particularly if the suit is only going to be worn once – right?

Wrong… this is just the start of a torturous voyage of discovery! The reality is that it is not quite that straight forward. Trying to get the same style and correct fit for everyone is tricky.  This is a very important time for everyone to look and feel their very best. It is not like buying a pair of jeans or a T-shirt, where a ‘that will do approach’ will suffice. This for every couple, this is the most important day of their lives. Brides rightly want to get everything honed to perfection.

Buying on the high street isn’t much better. Starting with the obvious choice – Marks & Spencer or Next. They provide cheap and cheerful two and three-piece suits. Often made of polyester and viscose and guaranteed to raise their temperature long before the nerves kick in!

In contrast Hugo Boss provide an off-the-peg three-piece wool suit for around £500-£650. However, will all the groomsmen fit perfectly into them? It’s highly unlikely. Remember that you will inevitably need to add in the cost alterations which could add another £100 or more to the cost per suit.

Made-to-Measure suits verses buying off-the-peg

A far better option than the cheaper suit, (or not so cheap with all the expensive alterations) is to choose bespoke tailoring. This cuts out all of the stress and worry of finding good quality suiting (with far more choice of fabrics than found on the high street) and expert tailoring that will ensure all your groomsmen look and feel fantastic.

As an added bonus, also included in the made-to-measure price of £650 each (depending on choice of fabric) are all the extra touches. Choice of linings, buttons, contrast colour button holes and embroidery (which you never receive from an ‘off-the-peg supplier)’ are all part of the service. This enables you to have suiting unique to you and your wedding party. It can also follow any colour wedding theme.

For the groom you might also wish to consider a waistcoat so they will stand out from the rest of the group. The lining colour can be carried through to the waistcoat for extra impact.

When buying made-to-measure, your best man and groomsmen will all look immaculate in those precious wedding photos. In addition, each of the men will have a made-to-measure suit to wear for the next special occasion they go to. Christenings, birthday celebrations, Christmas events, maybe even their own wedding. Do look here for more inspiration.

I think you will agree this is extremely good value. Especially when the bridal gown will only be worn once and costs roughly the same price as a beautiful made-to-measure suit for both the groom and the best man!
